The International Committee for Chinese Orphans (ICCO) is a volunteer organization dedicated to improving the lives of Tianjin's disabled orphans. In 1995, a group of foreigners started to volunteer in the Tianjin Orphanage. At that time the conditions were poor and the ratio of caretaker to baby was 1:20. The volunteers went in to help with feeding, changing diapers and give love and interact with the children. Some children were taken immediately to the hospital to be given life saving surgeries and treatments. With donations from within China but mainly overseas, ICCO was born and through donations of time and money has been able to exponentially improve the lives of the children.
